The child has one intuitive aim: self development

The Importance of Sports in School

School is the most important part of a student’s life. They receive education, knowledge, wisdom and personality development as a whole. But just telling a child about everything, going on around him, and the basic principles of algebra and magnetism etc. is not enough for their all round development. Sports is an integral part of the process of child’s over-all growth.

Mind and Body Growth

Sports helps in weight management, regulation of body metabolism, growth of the body, improves concentration and coordination of mind and body. Apart from the health benefits, sports also helps in increasing child’s confidence; and inculcate values like team spirit, discipline, responsibility, punctuality and leadership qualities. Moreover, if interested, they can pursue it as their career and make their country proud. Although most of the schools in India have made sports a part of their curriculum, but still the kind of motivation necessary to make a professional athlete is lacking and is definitely an area of concern. If we had to trace the records of the olympic athletes from India we would be quite surprised to know that most of them belong to poor family backgrounds and were not provided with the world class training required.

Although the government has started few programmes in this direction but the outcome is yet to be seen.

Outdoor games are definitely necessary for a child’s growth and development but we can’t ignore the importance of indoor games too; which make them indulge their brain.  We should also not forget the fact that these days kids are too busy in their so-called “social life” which is nothing but apps like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp etc and they dedicate a lot of time in these; and are more prone to develop chronic illness due to less exposure to sunlight, dust and environment in general, so by making sports a part of the school’s routine this problem can be solved.
